Thursday 19th September.
Up before the birds this morning for our train ride to
Charles de Gaulle Airport and flight to Copenhagen. Only a few more hours till
I see my sister!! Yay. We did most of our packing and cleaning up last night,
so not much to do this morning except make the bed look tidy and pack
toothbrushes. Avoiding the many stairs at Gare d’Austerlitz like the plague, we
opted to take the Metro to Odeon and change for line 4 planning to get off at
St Michel but made the decision on the train to stay on until Les Halles. Still
a few flights of stairs but not as many as d’Austerlitz (which we had given a
very unkind and un-PC name). The ticket station at Cardinal Lemoine, our home
station, spat out our tickets no problem thanks the demo given to us yesterday
by the lady in the ticket booth. 19 euro to get to the airport in total for
both of us. Sydney could take a lesson from that! It was getting light but the
sun didn’t peep over the horizon until 7.45am by which time we were nearly at
the airport. Looks like Paris might be in for some fine weather. That’d be
right!!
The airport is massive but very well organised. The train
dropped us at Terminal 3 and then we could a shuttle train to Terminal 1, where
check-in was problem free. Maccas for breakfast, yewwwww, same, same the world
over. Plenty of time to spare, hence this early morning blogging. We’re now
sitting at our gate waiting to board and we can have 15 minutes of free wi-fi. Ahahahaha!!
I had to give an email address to log-in, so I’m Minnie@hotmouse.com!!
CDG Airport escalators reminded me of a Chip and Dale cartoon. |
The plane was slow to board so we missed our take-off window
and sat for ½ hour on the plane in the waiting line. Uneventful flight, grabbed
some duty free alcohol to contribute to the household and we were on our way to
Linda’s on the nicest Metro system yet. We talked constantly, as sisters do
when they’re catching up, eating, drinking and making plans for the week we’re
here. Looks like a trip to the Carlsberg Brewery is on the cards for the
weekend, so that’ll be interesting.
Happy to think of you two gadding about there together! Sounds like they have good public transport.
ReplyDeleteThe Metro is pretty good, it's just all the bloody stairs to get to it!!
